VIT does not encourage cutoff initially, it is considered as an opening and closing rank for admission. A Cutoff means a closing rank or the last rank at which admission is closed at the Institute for B.Tech programs, a candidate who is seeking for the admission in VIT University the rank should be equal or be closing to the rank only and those who are below the cutoff will not secure for admission. VITEEE cutoff 2018 will be declared for the various engineering programs on or before 25th of April 2018 and those candidates who ranked closer to the cutoff are eligible for securing an admission in VIT University. However in the Campus of Chennai and Vellore VITEEE 2018 cutoff is available and the rest of the university cutoff is not available. VITEEE cutoff 2018 held after VITEEE Admit Card 2018 and the Exam completes.

Authority also decides the cutoff of VITEEE 2018 by the decision of the panel of counseling team for the admission of the students. This is a panel of experts, who will decide VITEEE cutoff on the basis of the number of received applications, the number of students who actually appeared for the exam and the number of seats which will be available for each course. VITEEE cutoff is available on Chennai and Vellore campus rest of the universities have to update the cutoff by the 3rd week of April 2018.
The final score of the students after appeared the examination will conclude whether the applicant is eligible for the admission, the marks 118+ will be allocated higher rank from 1 to 250.
